Becky has developed a series of workshops that have been utilized by many state rehabilitation organizations for nearly 10 years. This series expands on the information in the book On the Job with Hearing Loss: Hidden Challenges. Successful Solutions.

Assistive Listening Devices (ALD) Technical Training
Abstract: Professionals who choose ALDs, commonly known as assistive listening devices or hearing assistance technology, must know what technology is available in order to make appropriate technology recommendations. Comprehensive technical training offering solid, practical information is necessary to enable counselors to choose cost-effective solutions to meet the unique needs of hard of hearing clients.

Professionals new to hearing assistive technology receive a thorough grounding, while more experienced professionals enjoy staying abreast of the current technology. This popular workshop removes the ‘technical jargon’ and presents technology in easy to understand terms. Even ‘techno-phobics’ report an increased comfort level and understanding of the devices available.

Length:  2-3 hours

Assessment Services to Enhance Employment Opportunities for Hard of Hearing Clients
Abstract: The unique communication needs of hard of hearing people are often not fully identified by the professionals who serve them. It is critical to perform a comprehensive assessment of the impact of hearing loss in all functional areas to best determine the level of services needed.

This course outlines a systematic process to identify and document how a person functions in all areas of communication in relation to their hearing loss. Professionals who understand the assessment process are in a better position to provide the appropriate level of services to these typically under-served clients.

The expanded course includes practical, hands-on reinforcement of the process through the use of case studies.

Length:   2 hours (4 hours when combined with the case studies)

Assessment Services Case Studies
Abstract:
The aural rehabilitation needs of adults in the workforce are being explored on a national basis. Often, an effective hearing instrument is the only solution offered to an individual by their audiologist. However, working adults face very specific communication needs that can be improved with the use of assistive listening devices.

When hearing loss affects an employee’s ability to effectively use the telephone or participate in meetings and training classes, their employment status, advancement opportunities and stress levels can be significantly impacted. No where is this ability to interface a hearing instrument with an ALD more important than when an employee is trying to retain their job.

This course presents case studies of typical employment situations and ALD solutions that have been utilized to meet specific communication demands.

Length:  2 hours
